When a person is on his death bed, three messengers come to him. At that point he sees what he couldn’t see in this world. He sees the Day of Judgment when the King asks him to return the deposit, which is his soul God gave him for use in this world.
Life in this world is the aspect of the seven Sefirot from Chessed to Malchut. At the time of death the upper three Sefirot make connection to the seven of the person to let the soul come in.
The angel of death has the duty to separate the soul from the body, releasing it to go up and drop the body down as unwanted garment. The Zohar explains that the soul experiences a great pain when the sword of the angel of death severs the bondage between body and soul.
Only the desire to see the Shechina (Binah, the 8th) helps the soul leave the body and move into the Shechina (The all-white, light).
